Over the last two years, I have spent much of my time interacting with rocks of all shapes and sizes. The infatuation began when I started climbing in 2018. “Red and White Sheets” is a culmination of the time I have spent within these spaces. Using various climbing anchor techniques and equipment, I secured three by six foot sheets to rocks and foliage. The sheets offer the viewer an in, where they are compelled by whatever memories and ideas the colors reflect. I used the dynamic elements of fabric to highlight the interaction between the sheets and the environment. The contrast between the diverse and natural colors of the scene with the isolated hue of the sheet works to connect a human aspect to the space without people being in the photo. I wanted to bring a new element to an already beautiful area that would not only be alluring in itself, but urge the viewer to more closely examine the surroundings.
